Janey Gaston graduated with her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Louisiana Tech University in 2011 at the top of her nursing class. She then went on to the University of Louisiana at Monroe, graduating cum laude with her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2013. Furthering her education, Janey graduated as the top psychiatric nurse practitioner student in her class from McNeese State University in 2017.
Since graduation five years ago, Janey has gained a wealth of experience in both adult and child psychiatry, treating ages 7+ in Shreveport, La. Her specialties include anxiety, ADHD, and depression. She has worked in a variety of settings including inpatient hospitalization units, pain management clinics, and outpatient psychiatry clinics in her 11-year nursing career. She has also served as medical director of an outpatient mental health agency. In 2021, Janey became proud to call the Northshore home, and is accepting new child and adolescent patients. Accepting new adults patients as well for ADHD or depression management. The practice is no longer accepting adult clients with bipolar disorder or other major mood disorder.
During the course of her career, she has been named Vice President of the Louisiana Tech chapter of the Student Nurses’ Association (2010-2011) and a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society; she has also received multiple awards. She has received the Ruston District Nurses’ Association Award (2011), Faces of Healing Award (2019), and the Nursing Excellence Award from the Northshore District Nurses Association (2023). She is also a multi-time nominee of the Nightingale Award for Nurse Practitioners.
Janey Gaston also has a passion for writing, particularly children’s literature, and successfully became a published author in 2020 with Detective LB and Hopper: The Case of the Missing Chocolate Frogs. It has been named as a title winner in the 2021 Story Monsters Approved Awards.
